If anyone has been holding out for a GoPro because of the price... there's an alternative on Woot today. I have not read a lot of the posts for the sale, so I can't say exactly what you're getting. But it is HD, comes with a screen and various mounts. It is NOT a wide angle lens. Worth a look maybe?

The issue with a camera like this is the bottom mount. It is hard to get them stable in a car. My Kodak shakes a lot, even with a fancy mount. I'm actually thinking of making a new mount that will grip it in the center.

Having said that, I found having a video camera helpful if you want to study your runs to see where you are losing time. Now I need to find free software that will let me play two videos side by side.
