Who should attend

  • Novice Solo drivers
  • Solo drivers who want learn advanced techniques
  • Newly licensed drivers

What will you get out of the school?

The school will teach you how to improve your technique, judgement, reactions and confidence in your car. The school is targeted to those who just want to learn how to improve their driving skills as well as those who want to become competitive Solo drivers or get a taste of road racing.

The school provides excellent training for new drivers by providing a safe and controlled environment to gain valuable experience in car control.

  • Each student's car will be inspected for safety, including solid brakes, tight steering, tight wheel bearings, no loose items inside car, etc.
  • Students should wear comfortable clothing.
  • Helmets are required. They can be open or closed face, but must meet Snell 2000(or later) regulations. We do have loaner helmets but you may lose school time if you have to share a helmet with another student.
  • The event is covered by five million dollars in insurance.

The school costs $55 per student for SCCA members and $60 for weekend members. Registration includes lunch for each student. Students under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Car preparation

The school involves hard cornering, braking and acceleration. Before you drive to the school:

  • Make sure your car is empty of any loose items that can disturb you as you drive.
  • Top off all engine fluids (coolant, brake fluid)
  • Bring a small storage container to hold personal items
  • Increase the tire inflation pressure. The extra air pressure will keep your tires from rolling over. If you have a pump, bring it. Otherwise stop at a close gas station. For front wheel drive cars we recommend approximately 45 pounds in the front tires and 38 pounds in the rears. For rear wheel drive cars we recommend 40 pounds both front and rear.
  • Don't forget your helmet if you have one!

At the school:

  • Make sure everything loose is removed from the car (don't forget the trunk!)
  • Most students remove the spare tire, the jack, etc.
  • Remove floor mats
  • Remove hub caps and any other removable wheel items
  • Be prepared for a hot sunny day, or a rainy day. The school will take place in either case.
